Roundabout reversal at Scottsdale intersection costs city, taxpayers millions

SCOTTSDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — A Scottsdale City Council vote to abandon a federally funded roundabout project at Scottsdale Road and Dynamite Boulevard has cost the city millions of dollars.

According to city officials, the project cost $31 million in federal grant money and pushed the intersection safety project over budget by $3.4 million.

The federal government awarded Scottsdale the money in 2020 to build a roundabout at the intersection, which officials identified as a safety concern. Public opposition to roundabouts contributed to the council’s decision last year to back out of the project and pursue alternative safety improvements instead…
