Mesa gets big grant for gunshot detection system

In the predawn hours of a Sunday night, 11 gun shots rang out in a Glendale neighborhood.

The muzzle blasts triggered strategically mounted acoustic sensors or microphones that pinpointed the location and in under 60 seconds dispatched officers to a house.

“As our officers arrived, they observed through the front window of a home, a woman in distress,” Glendale Police said. “She was carrying a toddler, and told our officers there was a male inside with a rifle. Our officers acted quickly to get them out safely.”…
