Man accused of killing New River pastor attempts guilty plea, judge refuses

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — The man accused of killing a New River pastor and planning to kill 13 other religious leaders appeared in court Thursday morning, where he unexpectedly attempted to enter pleas, which the judge rejected.

Adam Sheafe entered an unexpected “no contest” plea during the hearing, which was objected to by prosecutors. Sheafe then attempted to plead guilty and accept the death penalty, but the judge refused that plea as well.

Sheafe and his attorneys are now due back in court on April 24…
