Shoplifting suspect breaks officer’s leg at Phoenix grocery store

A Phoenix police officer was hospitalized after a shoplifting suspect resisted arrest and pushed him to the ground, breaking his leg, according to police spokesperson Sgt. Jen Zak.

The incident took place around 3:45 p.m. March 13 at a Fry’s Food and Drug Store located near Baseline Road and 24th Street in Phoenix.

The officer, who was working off duty in full uniform, confronted 33-year-old Devontae Lashawn Stockdale after observing him shoplifting, Zak said. Stockdale had placed several items of merchandise into a backpack in an attempt to hide and remove them without payment, according to court documents…
