Family of Phoenix homeowner shot by police ask attorney general to intervene

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — The family of a Phoenix homeowner who was shot and killed by police while trying to stop an intruder on Thursday asked for the state’s top prosecutor to intervene.

It came days after county prosecutors announced they would not file criminal charges against the officer involved, but would instead charge the suspected intruder in the death of 36-year-old Christian Diaz Rendon.

Diaz Rendon was killed Jan. 26 after Phoenix Police Officer Jason Valenzuela mistakenly identified him as the suspect while responding to a home invasion near 75th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road, investigators said…
