With wildfire fears, air-quality complaints and neighborhood frustrations continuing to grow, Phoenix officials are moving to dramatically tighten the city’s fireworks rules. They plan to expand no-fireworks zones around mountain preserves and city parks and give police broader authority to seize illegal fireworks and levy steep penalties.
The proposed ordinance changes were approved last week by the Subcommittee on Public Safety and Justice and are heading to City Council for adoption May 20.
