Home Depot scams in Mesa leads to 44 felony counts against suspect

MESA, Ariz. — A grand jury has charged a man with 44 felony counts of organized retail theft for a series of “skip scanning” schemes perpetrated at Home Depot stores across the East Valley.

Mesa police reported arresting 53-year-old Chad Planck last month for allegedly taking about $9,000 worth of merchandise from various Home Depot locations. The suspect would pay for a low-priced item at the store’s self-service checkout area, then leave Home Depot with higher-priced items he had not paid for.
