El Fresco gives a “doomed” Calle Ocho landmark new life — for a little longer

We all know the cycle by now: Artists carve out a little space for themselves in a low-cost neighborhood. Through their efforts, things start improving and the area gets more attention. Then, victims of their own success, developers swoop in and rents increase past the point of sustainability. Eventually, the artists move on, and the process begins again in the next soon-to-be-hot neighborhood.

Miami artist Daniel Fila, better known as Krave, has seen that cycle play out firsthand more than once.
