These specialty Florida license plates could soon be showing up on vehicles

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Florida has many options for specialty license plates, and more options are continually being added. But in order for the state to produce the specialty license plates, each plate must receive 3,000 pre-orders within a 24-month period.

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles updates pre-sale numbers every week , and as of Thursday, there are two specialty plates that are near the 3,000 threshold to be produced.

As of Jan. 1, more than 2.2 million Floridians have purchased a specialty license plate for their vehicle, according to FLHSMV.

Which license plates are nearing production?

The Biscayne Bay specialty license plate is the closest to production out of plates on the list available on the FLHSMV website. It has more than 2,800 pre-sales, putting it only about 200 pre-sales away from production.

Proceeds from the Biscayne Bay license plate will go to the Miami Foundation to help with efforts to restore Biscayne Bay.

IRS warns of ‘ghost tax preparers’

The second specialty license plate nearing production is the Jimmy Buffett Margaritaville license plate , according to FLHSMV data. With about 2,200 pre-sales as of Thursday, it sits about 800 away from production.

The Margaritaville license plate proceeds will go to the Singing For Change foundation, which was created by Buffett, to benefit Florida nonprofits helping with hurricanes and other disasters…
