Miami Native Accepts Appointment To Class Of 2029 At The U.S. Naval Academy

Leila Subirats, a soon-to-be graduate of Class of 2025 at John A. Ferguson Senior  High School in West Kendall has accepted Cong. Carlos Gimenez’s congressional nomination and the  fully qualified appointment to the United States Naval Academy Class of 2029 in Annapolis, MD. On  June 26th, 2025, USNA Induction Day, will mark the beginning of six challenging weeks of basic  midshipman training during Plebe Summer. Approximately 1,200 candidates are selected each year for  the Academy ’ s “ plebe” or freshman class, and each student is required to participate in Plebe Summer.

The pressure and rigor of Plebe Summer is carefully designed to help plebes prepare for their  first academic year at the Naval Academy and the four years of challenge that awaits them. As the  summer progresses, the new midshipmen rapidly assimilate basic skills in seamanship, navigation,  damage control, sailing, and handling yard patrol craft.
