According to a March 24thpress release, a U.S. Coast Guard crew based out of Fort Lauderdale seized about 550 pounds of illicit narcotics, specifically cocaine, valued at about $6.3 million from just one vessel in a suspected drug smuggling operation near Port Everglades on March 22.The Coast Guard’s partners from Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office, Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations Southeast Region, and Broward County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the detection and interdiction. Together, they took custody of the Bella Vita, a 36-foot vessel that the suspected smuggler was using to transport the drugs.
