MAST student accused of threatening to “shoot up” school given probation

Saying he is concerned about the pressures high school students face, a Miami-Dade Juvenile Court judge on Friday sentenced a 17-year-old MAST Academy student to probation after she was accused of sending a threatening message on social media following a bad test.

Judge Orlando Prescott also withheld adjudication – meaning that the student would not have a record. The probation term is until the student is 19 years old — however, the student can terminate it after one year if she meets all the conditions. Prescott said he would then consider vacating the case altogether.

The student was charged with a felony count of making a “threat to kill” after posting a Feb. 20 selfie on the social media app Snapchat that stated, “Im gonna shoot up the school.” The FBI and police arrested the student at her parents’ Brickell apartment, according to the arrest affidavit…
