Disaster struck a residential building in Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood, where a fire left 10 residents, including three children and a dog, without a place to call home last night. The blaze was reported just after 6 p.m. at 1219 NW Second St., near loanDepot Park. Miami Fire Rescue teams responded to multiple emergency calls and battled heavy smoke to rescue two senior citizens, as reported by Local10.
According to City of Miami Fire Rescue, crews arrived quickly and managed to bring the fire under control within 10 minutes. Despite their prompt response, two units below the affected apartment suffered water damage. Lt. Pete Sanchez revealed crews had to additionally rescue two elderly residents who were “unable to evacuate due to heavy smoke.” These residents were subsequently treated for smoke inhalation at the scene, detailed by a report from WSVN. All other residents were confirmed to be safely evacuated.
The joint effort of the local community and the American Red Cross is underway to support those impacted by the fire.
