FPL customers could face double-digit bill spikes if increase request if approved

Fresh off recent extended power outages, Key Biscayne residents would be interested to know that Florida Power & Light (FPL) is asking state regulators to greenlight a significant rate increase.

On Friday, America’s largest utility filed documents with the Public Service Commission (PSC) detailing its request, citing inflation and the need for infrastructure to serve a rapidly growing customer base.

FPL, which expects to add 335,000 more customers by the end of 2029, stated it “will continue to make smart, long-term capital investments to maintain and improve upon its excellent service.”…
