Miami Warns Of Dangerous Heat Related Illness

Miami recently warned that extreme temperatures could take its toll on the health of residents this summer. A recently released bulletin from Miami-Dade Country read, “Heat is the number one weather-related killer. It’s estimated that the average number of excess deaths (number of deaths above average) during times of extreme heat are 600 annually in Miami-Dade County alone.”

Miami had 60 days last year when the heat index was above 110 degrees F. This is considered extremely dangerous to people who do not have access to air conditioning and other ways to stay cooler than the outside temperature
