Nearly 20 years ago, a 40-year-old mother of two and a sister of a Miami Police commander, was killed in aHialeahcar crash by a woman who ran a flashing red light and had a blood-alcohol level over twice the legal driving limit, prosecutors say.
But before police could arrest her, the woman’s boyfriend, who worked in the Hialeah Police Department, tipped her off and she fled to Mexico, prosecutors noted.
Leydis Menendez Abdala, 52, who is Cuban, was extradited to Miami from Mexico on Friday by deputies in the U.S. Marshals Service and booked into the county jail on Saturday.
