Miami Man Charged with Digital Voyeurism for Allegedly Recording and Sharing Intimate Encounter Without Consent

A Miami man is facing legal repercussions after allegedly filming an intimate encounter with his then-girlfriend without her consent and subsequently sharing the video in a group chat. According to Local 10 News, Hernan Jose Castro, 26, was arrested on charges of digital voyeurism dissemination and sexual cyberharassment.

The arrest follows the claim from the victim, who had been in a brief relationship with Castro while visiting Miami, that after their breakup, she was informed by a mutual friend about a video being circulated. The friend divulged that Castro had uploaded a video of them engaging in sexual activity to a group chat. NBC Miami reports that upon receiving the video herself, the victim was clear that she had not consented to the recording or its distribution.

When initially questioned by police, Castro denied the existence of such a video. However, when confronted with the evidence, he attempted to deflect responsibility, suggesting it had been filmed on the victim’s phone—a claim he later retracted.
