Miami Beach Man Charged in Florida Keys Road Rage Incident Involving Knife Threats

A road-rage confrontation escalated to violence in the Florida Keys when a Miami Beach man reportedly attacked another driver before threatening him, and two others, with a knife. According to the NBC Miami, the altercation occurred on Monday, at approximately 3:35 p.m., when James Varner, 55, allegedly followed the victim over being passed on the road. Varner confronted the driver at a Stock Island residence and, after a heated exchange, head-butted him.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office stated that the situation deteriorated further when two relatives of the victim attempted to intervene. During the argument that ensued, Varner, went back to his vehicle to retrieve what was described as a large knife or small machete and reportedly made verbal threats against all three individuals.

A spokesperson from the Sheriff’s Office disclosed, “That’s when Varner allegedly went to his vehicle, grabbed what was described as a large knife/small machete, and made verbal threats to kill all three of the people,” underscoring the dangerous nature of road rage incidents.
