This Massive 3-Day Festival Celebrating Miami Beach’s Historic Art Deco Architecture Returns This January

From The Carlyle to Hotel Breakwater, it’s hard to imagine Miami Beach without its most iconic and design-forward architecture. And here to celebrate it is the 49th annual Art Deco Weekend, taking place January 9 to 11! This year’s festival, themed “Celebrating Air, Land & Sea,” explores how the travel innovations of the 1920s and ’30s helped shape the geometric patterns and bold colors of the nation’s largest Art Deco district.

What to do during Art Deco Weekend

With more than 800 designated historic buildings, attendees can participate in daily walking tours throughout the city, led by the Miami Design Preservation League, with landmarks such as the Colony Hotel and the Clevelander South Beach.

The celebration centers on Ocean Drive and Lummus Park, offering a vibrant blend of education, art and entertainment. The Wolfsonian–FIU will host expert talks on the intersection of design and technology during the golden age of travel, while Lummus Park transforms into a Jazz Age playground with live music and free swing and shag lessons. Additionally, artisans and local food vendors will line Ocean Drive for an open-air shopping experience.

Through January 31st, Galeria Ocean Drive will present 100 Years of Art Deco: A World Celebration, a free outdoor gallery featuring over 100 global images of the movement…
