ST. LUCIE COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — Deputies said they arrested a Miami man after finding him actively pumping diesel with fraudulently encoded gift cards , a scheme that definitely didn’t pump the brakes on high fuel prices.
The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office said that its deputies were called around 2:30 p.m. on March 12, to the Love’s Truck Stop at 200 S. Kings Highway for a fuel theft in progress. When they arrived, they said the suspect was still at the pump and was taken into custody without incident.
Detectives later determined he was using Walmart gift cards encoded with compromised credit card information to purchase large quantities of diesel. Investigators estimate about $1,200 worth of fuel was obtained…
