A man was shot in his lower extremities in unincorporated Gladeview just before 1:45 p.m. Monday, and medics rushed him to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center as detectives began piecing together what happened near Northwest 18th Avenue and 63rd Street. His condition remained unknown as of Monday afternoon.
Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies did not learn of the shooting through a 911 call. According to Local10 News, deputies responded after a ShotSpotter alert directed them to the scene, where they found the man wounded. The acoustic gunshot detection system covers more than 22 square miles of high-incidence corridors across the county, feeding real-time coordinates to dispatchers before witnesses even pick up the phone, according to SoundThinking.
Detectives are now investigating the shooting case, though no suspect information has been released. The intersection where the man was found sits along a key north-south residential corridor in Gladeview, just north of the Liberty City neighborhood boundary, per the South Florida Regional Planning Council’s mapping of the area.
A Familiar Pattern for Northwest Miami-Dade
This is not the first time acoustic sensors have guided deputies to a gunshot victim with leg injuries in the area.
