Foggy Bottom landlord and developer BXP is suing its tenant, restaurant Bodega Taqueria y Tequila, for over $145,000 in overdue payments.
BXP, the developer and owner of 2100 Pennsylvania Avenue, brought the suit in D.C. Superior Court against Bodega in May alleging the restaurant failed to pay its rent between September of last year and May of this year. Bodega — which sits on I Street adjacent to the GW Campus store — first opened in January 2025 but appears to have closed after the company removed its Foggy Bottom location from its website sometime this month, announced the closure of the speakeasy inside the restaurant — Casta’s at Bodega — in an Instagram post on Aug. 12 and removed the signage from building’s facade this month.
In the filing, BXP claims Bodega breached its commercial lease by failing to pay $145,129.54 in rent and other fees. In a separate filing, lawyers representing BXP alleged Bodega failed to pay rent despite the fact that operations appeared to be “thriving” while the restaurant was open…
