A 16-year-old Miami angler has officially claimed a spot in Florida’s fishing history after landing a record-setting catch in Miami-Dade County.
Biologists with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) recently certified a new state record for the jaguar guapote, confirming a 3.02-pound, 16-inch specimen landed by Xzavier Peon. Peon brought in the fish while fishing with live bait in the Westwood Lakes neighborhood.
“When I hooked it, I thought it was a peacock bass,” Peon said. “But once the giant jaguar came up I knew that it was a state record almost instantly. We started freaking out once we realized it was a state record.”…
