DORAL, Fla. — Latino influencer and immigration activist Carlos Eduardo Espina has donated $50,000 of his own money to launch an emergency fund for families in Doral who have lost a parent or primary breadwinner to immigration detention or deportation, as stepped-up federal enforcement increasingly affects one of the largest Venezuelan communities in the United States.
The Doral Family Emergency Fund is a partnership between Espina, the League of United Latin American Citizens, or LULAC, LULAC Florida and the Venezuelan American Caucus. The initiative provides eligible Doral households with grants of up to $1,000 for immediate expenses including rent, groceries, utilities, childcare, medication, diapers, baby formula and school supplies.
