Hollywood, Florida, Mayor Makes Announcement as Milton Approaches

Mayor Josh Levy officially declared a State of Emergency for the City of Hollywood as Tropical Storm Milton intensifies, now a Category 2 storm, and moves towards the Florida peninsula. The declaration, announced on the City of Hollywood, Florida Government Facebook page, effective as of 5:00 p.m. on October 5, 2024, comes in response to the storm’s expected transformation into a hurricane.

Storm Preparations

The City of Hollywood is taking proactive measures to ensure public safety and minimize potential damage:

Flood Watch and Rainfall: A Flood Watch is currently in effect for Hollywood through Thursday, with the National Weather Service forecasting strong winds and heavy rainfall. Up to 8 inches of rain is possible in the area.

Public Works Operations: Crews are actively collecting storm-related litter and clearing catch basins. Residents are urged to check and clear the basins on their streets to facilitate proper stormwater drainage.

Enhanced City Services: Public Utility crews are monitoring deployed pumps, while Hollywood Fire Rescue and Police Department personnel are on enhanced schedules and patrol.
