Although Floridians will tell you that the Sunshine State is home to some fantastic restaurants – both fancy and humble – Florida is sometimes left out of lists of the “best of” when it comes to food. That changed on the New York Times’s recent list of “our 50 favorite places in America right now.” One of them – Miami’s La Camaronera – is part fish market and its most popular dish is a unique sandwich.
About La Camaronera: This little joint in Little Havana is owned by fishermen brothers, the Garcias. Miami New Times calls it “iconic” and notes that it has been featured on both PBS’ Check Please and Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives.
The house specialty is apparently the camarones fritos, but the New York Times raved about the “Minuta” fish sandwich (pictured at the top of this article.)
The Times noted that the sandwich, which includes the tail:
“…is both hard to miss and hard to resist…”
