Famed Cuban architect to be honored

Six years ago, Marilyn Borroto was humbled by the 450 guests who came to honor her husband at the American Museum of the Cuban Diaspora on Coral Way, where she introduced a book on his life and his well-applauded accomplishments as an architect.

Now, folks in and around the Village will get another chance to celebrate the extraordinary life and career of Wilfredo “Willy” Borroto during a free, special evening starting at 7 p.m., on Jan. 29, in the Key Biscayne Community Center’s Lighthouse Room, where Marilyn will present her self-penned biography, “The Life & Works of Architect Wilfredo Borroto Montori,” albeit in slides and stories.

“I have no more books, they were all sold,” she said, laughing.

In fact, she said, the outpouring of support from that event six years ago inspired well-known Cuban author and writer Carlos Alberto Montaner to tell her “that we had a gran poder de convocatoria,” a very strong convening power to bring people together…
