Miami comeback falls short as Hurricanes swept at Virginia

Virginia scored seven runs in the first four innings and held on for an 8-6 win over Miami on Sunday to sweep the series. Miami had a five-run seventh and had the tying runs on first and third with no outs after scoring a run in the top of the ninth but could not get any closer.

Daniel Cuvet continued to lead Miami offensively with three hits in five at-bats, a run scored, four runs batted in and a three-run home run in the seventh to spark the Miami rally. Cuvet’s RBI single in the ninth inning scored Jake Odgen and advanced Max Galvin to third to put the potential tying runs on base with no outs.

Dorian Gonzalez and Jake Kulikowski struck out and Nolan Johnson flew out to center field to end the threat and the game. Ogden also had three hits for Arizona and Galvin, Gaby Gutierrez and Tanner Smith had one each. Henry Ford had three hits in three at-bats with three runs scored and four RBIs…
