Brightline’s South Florida Commuter Pass Returns with a 125% Price Hike Amid Commuter Concerns

After a pause that lasted nearly a year, Brightline has reintroduced its South Florida commuter pass with a significant price increase. The pass that formerly allowed riders 40 one-way trips for $399 has surged to $899, marking a 125% upswing in costs, according to NBC Miami. The restructured pricing offers additional options for passengers, including a 20-ride pass for $549, and a 10-ride pass for $299.

Some commuters have expressed concerns over the heightened expense. “The thing for me with Brightline is, it is expensive. Like, it’s nice, but it’s expensive to use on a regular basis,” Rochelle Irons from Palm Beach Gardens told CBS News Miami. The new per-ride cost effectively has more than doubled, escalating from approximately $10 to $22.50 for the monthly 40-ride offering.

Brightline halted the original pass program in June 2024, attributing the decision to increased ridership and shifting operational priorities. Despite the price hike, the company insists that there are still savings to be captured when compared to standard ticket fares.
