Ex-nonprofit COO charged with embezzling millions for luxury goods, personal expenses

MIAMI, Fla. (CBS12) — A former Chief Operating Officer of a non-profit is accused of embezzling funds from the foundation to buy designer handbags and a rose gold golf cart.

According to the United States Department of Justice (DOJ), Charmaine Gatlin, was charged with concocting a scheme to embezzle money from the non-profit, Jackson Health Foundation, by submitting false invoices and taking kickbacks.

Gatlin, 52, served as the COO for the Jackson Health Foundation from 2014 to 2024. The DOJ states, from her time as COO she received a base salary that ranged from $185,000 to $290,000. She signed a conflict of interest form with the foundation that prevented her from making decisions that resulted in personal gain…
