Police: Unlicensed Miami Driver Arrested Following Scooter Rider Dies In Crash

A 23-year-old Miami woman who has never had a driver’s license was arrested after police claimed she hit and killed somebody riding an electric scooter in a crash over the weekend.

According to Miami police, the incident occurred shortly after 3 p.m. at the junction of Northwest 54th Street and Northwest Fifth Avenue, near the Little Haiti area.

According to investigators, Shanetta Chantell Gilbert was driving a 2008 Nissan Altima eastbound in the left lane of Northwest 54th Street when the victim, who was riding a scooter westbound on the right shoulder, made a quick left turn to cross the road from north to south…
