This last May, the art department at Palmetto Middle School hosted a stunning art show which showcased the work of our very talented student artists. Much thanks and appreciation goes to our art teacher, Mrs. Kristine Ladines, who worked tirelessly to organize the show and set up the beautiful displays. Artwork from all grades and ability levels were included. Mrs. Ladines also made it possible for visitors of the art show to purchase the prints using QR codes found on each piece of art, which directly benefitted the school’s art program. This is the second of two shows Mrs. Ladines has hosted this year, after her students’ artwork was displayed in an interactive glow in the dark display earlier this year.
The great variety of art that students study and create in their classes at Palmetto Middle encompasses beautiful pieces using many different mediums like charcoal sketches, acrylic painting, print making, watercolor, and 3-dimensional multimedia. Through the creation of their artwork, students are also able to learn about topics like Hispanic Heritage, Women’s History, and works of literature. Other artwork displayed featured lovely fall pumpkin and pinecone studies, altered self-portraits, and sketches of the human body. Students also created artwork that employed pattern, repetition, rhythm, and balance.
Many of the pieces displayed span the three years our 8 th grade artists have spent working and learning under the guidance of Mrs. Ladines. The Artist Hall of Fame showcased three of our brilliant graduating artists. The artwork of Samantha Greenidge demonstrates her impressive ability to use any type of medium to create incredible self portraits, scenes with perspective, and detailed nature studies. Emily Matias’ artwork employs a unique and splendid combination of whimsy as well as colorful portraits. Valeria Arias creative portraits include vibrant compositions with abstract flair.
