Don’t Miss August’s Only Full Moon, The ‘Sturgeon Moon’, In Miami Skies Tonight

Listen up, Miami stargazers! We’re about to be treated to the only full moon of the month in all its golden glory for not one, but two nights. Named after the massive freshwater fish that was often caught during this time of year, the Sturgeon Moon will shine brightly on Friday night, August 8, but its peak won’t be until the wee morning hours of Saturday, August 9!

When to see the full Sturgeon Moon in Miami

A full moon occurs when the Earth is positioned directly between the sun and moon, at which point the entirety of its surface appears lit from our perspective, according to Space.com. Looking at Time and Date, August’s full moon will reach peak illumination at 3:54 a.m. on August 9th.

As we mentioned earlier, you can still take in the sight as it’ll appear full on both Friday and Saturday. A two-night full moonrise is quite uncommon for observers, so you’ll want to make sure you stay up or set your alarms to enjoy its beautiful golden glow…
