Accused Miami Pirate Radio Operator Arrested Live On Air.

A pirate radio operator in Miami was arrested and his equipment seized while he was allegedly broadcasting on an illegal FM signal. On the hook for more than $300,000 in fines, “DJ AJ 305,” whose real name is Abdias Datis, was taken into custody by Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies on Tuesday (Aug. 12), WPLG reports. He was being held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $2,500 bond and faces felony charges.

In February, the FCC proposed a $325,322 fine against Datis for operating an unauthorized radio station on 91.7 FM known as “Unique FM” in Miami. In March and November 2024, and in January 2025, agents from the FCC’s Miami field office monitored and traced the unauthorized signal to a single-family residence on NW 147th Street in Miami. The agents heard the station identified on-air as “Unique FM” and the operator identified as “DJ AJ,” a known alias of Datis.

Agents later connected Datis to the station through his social media accounts, which included an Instagram photo with the caption, “Entrepreneur Radio Unique FM Miami.” He also promoted a station event on his Facebook page…
