ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – The U.S. Coast Guard announced the largest single offloading of drugs known to date Monday, with $473 million in drugs seized in Florida.
In Port Everglades near Miami, Coast Guard Cutter Hamilton’s crew offloaded 76,140 pounds of narcotics (approximately 61,740 pounds of cocaine and approximately 14,400 pounds of marijuana), valued at $473 million, marking the largest quantity of drugs offloaded in Coast Guard history.
Lt. Nicolina Converso, Southeast District Public Affairs Officer, said the seized drugs were the result of 19 interdictions starting at the end of June to August in international waters of the East Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea, meaning the Coast Guard intercepted multiple loads of illegal drugs in those areas over the course of a few months…
