Who fired first? State suggests evidence lacking to confirm kidnapper’s shots triggered 2019 Miramar shootout

At least seven witnesses — five of them civilians — have sworn they believe kidnapper Ronnie Hill fired the first shots that triggered a fusillade of police gunfire that left Hill and his accomplice dead, but also claimed the lives of two innocents: their hostage and the driver of a car in the line of fire.

And zoomed-in aerial video, matched with audio from cellphone and police bodycam videos, also appears to show two shots from Hill’s gun, followed by the first of up to 221 rounds fired by 20 officers over the next 25 seconds.

But, as it tries to prove one of those officers did not act in self-defense, Broward prosecutors have elicited testimony that telltale evidence that would confirm those accounts is missing from crime scene recovery: shell casings from Hill’s firearm…
