Guatemalan man extradited to Miami to face federal cocaine conspiracy charges

MIAMI, Fla. (CBS12) — A Guatemalan national accused of conspiring to traffic cocaine into the United States was extradited to South Florida and is set to appear in federal court.

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) said on Tuesday that Roberto Carlo Giron Hernandez, 49, also known as “Gordo” and “RC,” was arrested in Guatemala on February 3 under a provisional warrant. He now faces a federal indictment in the Southern District of Florida charging him with conspiracy to distribute cocaine with the intent — or reasonable belief — that it would be imported into the U.S.

If convicted, Giron Hernandez could face a maximum sentence of life in prison, according to the news release. The indictment stems from an investigation led by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Miami Field Division and its Guatemala Country Office…
