One hundred and forty years of Miami-Dade County Public Schools: Championing the unseen

We began this new school year proudly marking the 140th anniversary of the founding of Miami-Dade County Public Schools. But history is more than a collection of years — it is a living thread that connects who we were, who we are, and who we dare to become. It is shaped by the students we inspire, the families we support, and the communities we uplift.

Since 1885, we have been the heart of education in this community, and while tomorrow keeps changing, our promise to students and families remains steadfast. We continue to adapt, expand, and make room for what comes next — always striving to meet the moment and unlock the potential in every learner.

Climbing together: A district united in progress

In education, there is no finish line. Our journey is defined by continuous growth, shared purpose, and collective resilience. We climb together — as one team, with one mission. The phrase “We Equals One” continues to resonate across our district, reminding us that our greatest impact comes from unity.

This year, our climb is measurable. Our graduation rate has reached an all-time high of 95.2%. State assessment results show significant gains in proficiency across all 21 tested areas and among all student subgroups. We are proud to be an A-rated district — or as we like to say, “A to the sixth power.” The percentage of A-rated schools in our community has risen from 53% to 64%. These milestones reflect our commitment to excellence and our refusal to settle.

Everyday champions: Stories that inspire

Behind every achievement are champions who rise to meet the moment. This year, I received a heartfelt email from Ms. Bonnee Binker, a grandmother searching for the right school for her granddaughter, Delaney. Delaney, who is on the autism spectrum, found a sense of belonging at Paul Bell Middle School — a moment marked by an unexpected hug that symbolized trust and connection.
