Cousin names defendant as shooter in 2021 deadly robbery for gold chain

The trial of a man accused of shooting and killing a 21-year-old during a necklace robbery in North Miami Beach continued Friday, with dramatic testimony from the defendant’s own cousin.

Prosecutors say Marcus Ealy and his cousin, Mario Fogler, targeted Malcolm Johnson Jr. in May 2023 to steal his gold necklace.

Surveillance video captured the attack: one man wrestled with Johnson while another grabbed for the jewelry. Moments later, gunfire erupted. Johnson collapsed, and the suspects fled the scene.

On the stand Friday, Fogler admitted he was with Ealy during the robbery-turned-murder. In exchange for a 20-year prison sentence, Fogler testified he saw his cousin pull the trigger and kill Johnson…
