Cruise lines face threat of fuel supply shutdown in Miami

Cruises may not be significantly impacted by the ongoing government shutdown, but the cruise industry is now facing another major shutdown threat related to their fuel supply in the Cruise Capital of the World, PortMiami.

The port’s fuel depot was just sold to a real estate investor, leaving cruise lines’ access to the fuel supply in jeopardy. Miami-Dade County commissioners are working to determine a long-term solution for the port’s fuel crisis, but cruise industry leaders worry about the short to mid-term impacts.

“In the short to mid-term, without that fuel farm, it’s pretty tough to certify certainty that the fuel is going to be available to us,” Royal Caribbean Group CEO Jason Liberty told the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners, as reported by Cruise Industry News…
