Financial controller accused of major theft from exclusive Coral Gables country club

A financial controller is facing serious charges after authorities said he allegedly stole hundreds of thousands of dollars from an exclusive country club in Coral Gables.

Richard Patanao, 41, was arrested Wednesday on charges of grand theft, organized fraud over $50,000, and fraudulent use of a credit card, Miami-Dade jail records showed.

According to an arrest report, Patanao worked as a controller for the company that manages the Deering Bay Yacht & Country Club between June 2022 and July 2024.
