Miami Gang Member Arrested for Scamming Elderly Keys Resident Out of Nearly $20K

Authorities say a member of the Miami-based “Any Body Killer” (ABK) gang has been arrested for scamming an elderly Florida Keys man out of almost $20,000. Sheldon Adams Vandyke, 26, was taken into custody at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport after returning from Belize on a warrant issued by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Vandyke is charged with scheming to defraud a person over 65, a felony offense.

Monroe County Sheriff Rick Ramsay praised the teamwork involved in the arrest, saying investigators worked closely with banking fraud units to crack the case and secure justice for the 84-year-old victim.

Scam Targeted an Elderly Victim

The investigation began in October when the elderly Lower Keys resident reported receiving a call from someone claiming to be from Bank of America. The caller, later identified as Vandyke, told the man there was a problem with his bank account. After the victim shared personal information, he lost about $19,800, authorities said…
