While authorities have shared little on the events leading up to the drowning, they mentioned there was no indication that the incident was criminal in nature. This year alone, according to the Florida Department of Children and Families, the state has seen a startling 112 children perish due to drowning. This is six fatalities more than the previous year and represents the highest count since 2007.
