Child among 12 people impacted, along with cat, by Overtown fire: Authorities

Several people, including a child, were displaced after an apartment building caught fire in Miami’s Overtown neighborhood on Monday.

City of Miami Fire Rescue said they responded to a fire at a mixed-use building at 48 Northwest 8th Avenue at around 3:52 p.m., where crews saw heavy smoke and flames coming from a second-floor apartment.

Firefighters “encountered heavy black smoke throughout the floor, with active fire in one apartment and extending into the attic space,” fire rescue said…
