Homeless man seen leaving Walmart with duffel bag of $161 in soap and scented items

A homeless man from Miami was arrested for theft after stealing multiple soaps and scented items from Walmart.

An officer on patrol at Walmart, located at 2501 Citrus Blvd., saw two loss prevention employees quickly leaving the building around 12 p.m. Thursday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. Ahead of them walked 57-year-old Darren Barnard Julious carrying a black duffel bag.

The employees told the officer Julious was a suspected thief, and he was subsequently detained in handcuffs. After driving him back to the entrance of the store to investigate, the officer commanded he step out of the patrol vehicle multiple times. He refused to cooperate several times, the report said.

Another officer responded to the scene to assist as the first watched surveillance footage of the incident. It showed Julious picking up items from the clearing aisle, putting them into his cart and transferring them into a black duffel bag in the tool aisle. He then walked toward the exit doors without paying for any of it, the report said…
