About a decade after People’s Bar-B-Que shut down, three restaurant operators are competing for the chance to open a new eatery at the legendary barbecue spot.
Why it matters: The Miami community redevelopment agency that owns the restaurant wants to honor Overtown’s culinary history, so it’s letting the community help select the new tenant.
Driving the news: The People’s Choice Barbecue Cook-off will be a three-way competition between the Michelin-recommended Rosie’s, Extra Butter Miami and McKays Catering.
- The semifinalists were selected by the Southeast Overtown/Park West Community Redevelopment Agency.
- The winner of the March 28 cook-off will be considered by the CRA to enter into a lease to operate a barbecue restaurant at the People’s location.
