MILWAUKEE — A Milwaukee doctor who regularly practices medicine in Uganda says mistrust of government officials, cultural traditions and limited access to health care are among the biggest obstacles to containing the Ebola outbreak in Central Africa.
Dr. Cindy Jones-Nosacek and her husband, Gary Nosacek, recently returned from Uganda, where they volunteer through a partnership between Milwaukee’s Three Holy Women Parish and a clinic in Padibe. The couple spoke with WTMJ’s Libby Collins about conditions on the ground as health officials work to stop the spread of Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo and neighboring Uganda.
Jones-Nosacek, who holds a Ugandan medical license and works at the clinic during her visits, said there was little indication of an impending outbreak when the couple left Uganda at the end of April. She, along with her husband, who is a Catholic deacon, have traveled to Uganda more than a dozen times through the parish’s long-standing mission partnership, which supports a medical clinic, educational programs and economic development projects…
