‘There’s a lot less fear’: Monitor gives heart failure patient more peace of mind

MILWAUKEE — As a patient with heart failure, Micki Brittain checks in with her care team at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center frequently.

Her most recent visit was with Christina Sauld, a nurse practitioner. Brittain was also accompanied by her emotional support dog, KC.

Brittain has a small sensor placed inside her pulmonary artery. It’s called a CardioMEMS, short for Cardiovascular Micro-Electromechanical Systems. It monitors any fluid buildup which could lead to a hospitalization to remove any fluid…
