Sources for single-story structures

Q: My question is a bit different and has to do with how to suggest structures to manufacturers. For example, there are a lot of Main Street-style stores that are two- and three-story structures, but none that are a single story. Yet if you look at many small towns, there are a lot of single-story buildings mixed in with the two-story structures. We need some of those. — Jim Burns

A: Thanks for writing in, Jim. The best way to share product suggestions with hobby manufacturers is using the “Contact Us” link on their websites. Most companies have a form you can fill out. A physical address is often listed, too, if you prefer to reach out via regular mail. Some companies may provide a phone number as well.

Your observation about Main Street-style structures is a good one. As older multi-story buildings were torn down because of age, redevelopment projects, or fire, they were sometimes replaced with single-story structures. In my hometown, there were at least two three-story downtown buildings that suffered fire damage in the 1960s and were converted to single-story structures…
