MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — Mistari, a zebra foal born April 22, was humanely euthanized Monday, June 15 after suffering a severe leg fracture during her morning routine at the Milwaukee County Zoo, the zoo announced Tuesday, June 16.
The injury, a severe open fracture to her right rear leg, reportedly happened when Mistari shifted to the outdoor zebra yard. The veterinary team gave her pain medication, took X-rays and flushed the wound, finding the bone had fractured into multiple pieces and blood supply to the lower leg had been disrupted.
After consulting with large animal veterinarians and surgeons, the team determined surgery could not repair the injury…
